Basketball Recap: Eddie Williams Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mesquite

Waxahachie won the last time they faced Mesquite and things went their way on Friday too. The Waxahachie Indians narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mesquite Skeeters 73-71. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Skeeters are ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waxahachie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eddie Williams led the charge by going 10 for 14 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Bradley, who went 5 of 7 to rack up 17 points and six assists.

Waxahachie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Waxahachie's record now sits at 16-13. As for Mesquite, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-19.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waxahachie will square off against Duncanville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Duncanville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Waxahachie surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mesquite, they will host DeSoto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in DeSoto's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
