Baseball Game Preview: Canton Little Giants vs. Farmington Farmers

The Canton Little Giants will challenge the Farmington Farmers at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Canton couldn't beat Pekin on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the first inning. The Little Giants fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 7-6. The Little Giants haven't had much luck with the Dragons recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Asher Blessman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Colin Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Farmington started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Macomb. They fell just short of the Bombers by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

Lane Wheelwright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Farmington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bronson Atchley, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Farmington's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-6. As for Canton, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts.
