Cowanesque Valley took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wellsboro, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Hornets on Monday. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Cowanesque Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Simonds, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Canton made easy work of Sayre on Tuesday and carried off a 13-5 win. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Michael Beers made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Fitch, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Castle, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Cowanesque Valley pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Canton, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Canton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cowanesque Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Canton, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Cowanesque Valley's hitters?
