Straughn's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pike County Bulldogs a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

JT Moreno was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Straughn is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Moreno was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Eli Melvin was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Straughn's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Matt Ashberry, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Straughn now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Pike County, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Straughn will have a chance to go back-to-back against Pike County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
