Recap: Rock Canyon Jaguars vs. Regis Jesuit Raiders
It was a good run, but the Rock Canyon Jaguars unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They were the victim of a tough 73-48 loss at the hands of Regis Jesuit. Rock Canyon has not had much luck with Regis Jesuit recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Rock Canyon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sienna Pillsbury, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Pillsbury has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Goode, who scored 13 points along with two blocks.
Regis Jesuit's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Coryn Watts led the charge by scoring 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Watts has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hana Belibi, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds.
Rock Canyon's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2. As for Regis Jesuit, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rock Canyon will take on Fort Collins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Fort Collins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. As for Regis Jesuit, they will be playing at home against Mountain Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Regis Jesuit is ranked 12th).
