Preview: Crete Cardinals vs. Blair Bears
The Crete Cardinals's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Blair Bears at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Crete suffered their closest defeat yet this season two weeks ago. They fell just short of Scottsbluff by a score of 52-49.
Despite the loss, Crete got a solid performance out of Anna Hohlen, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Amelia Hohlen was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Blair's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 57-33 defeat at the hands of Harlan. While losing is never fun, Blair can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 92nd in Nebraska, while Harlan is ranked 31st in Iowa).
Blair used a three-pronged attack on offense:
Claire Anderson,
Joslyn Policky, and
Marin Sather posted six points each.
Crete's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Blair, they bumped their record down to 6-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Crete couldn't quite finish off Blair when the teams last played back in January of 2022 and fell 45-43. Can Crete avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
