Basketball Recap: Bellaire Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Bellaire unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a blow against the Martins Ferry Purple Riders, falling 78-35. The matchup marked the Big Reds' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Bellaire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Raekwon Pettigrew posted 16 points and five boards. The game was Pettigrew's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Caleb Jewell was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Bellaire's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Martins Ferry, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Bellaire is taking a road trip to take on Barnesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bellaire is facing Barnesville at the right time seeing as Barnesville is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Martins Ferry, they will face off against Harrison Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martins Ferry is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
