Baseball Recap: South Sioux City Has No Trouble Against Buena Vista

South Sioux City's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Buena Vista Bison with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Cardinals' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Darrius Helms made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Sioux City is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Helms was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Braden Barnett was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Jensen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

South Sioux City pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buena Vista, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-19.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Sioux City will venture away from home to take on Roncalli Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buena Vista, they will head out to challenge Benson at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bunnies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.06 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of.
