The Westlake Demons will take on the Avon Lake Shoremen at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Westlake fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Steele on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Comets by a score of 2-1. The Demons were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Comets' pitchers proved too tough.
Westlake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Jung, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Avon Lake brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They came out on top against Highland by a score of 12-9 on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Shoremen's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Shane Street made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Street was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alex Hicov was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Josh Bobrowski, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Avon Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Avon Lake pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Westlake, they moved to 11-8 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Westlake came out on top in a nail-biter against Avon Lake when the teams last played back in April of 2021, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Demons repeat their success, or do the Shoremen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
