Basketball Recap: West Brunswick Comes Up Short

West Brunswick lost against South Brunswick last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The West Brunswick Trojans received a blow as they fell 57-43 to the South Brunswick Cougars. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, West Brunswick got some senior leadership from Saniya Stanley and Jahyra Mastry. Stanley went 6-for-9 to rack up 16 points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Mastry posted 15 points. Thanks to that strong game, Stanley now owns an excellent 45.5% shooting accuracy.

South Brunswick's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adyson Bell, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. Bell also grabbed five steals, which is notable because South Brunswick is 4-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Meryn Deutsch, who scored 17 points and eight rebounds.

West Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 9-15. As for South Brunswick, their record now sits at 11-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Brunswick will venture away from home to challenge New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Brunswick, they will head out to face off against Laney at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
