Recap: Springstead Eagles vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against River Ridge, the Springstead Eagles were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 52-45 win over Weeki Wachee. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 3 on the offensive boards, as Springstead did.

Springstead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malanie Francis led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Francis has scored at least 25% of Springstead's points. Samantha Suarez was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 8 steals and 6 assists.

Weeki Wachee's loss came despite strong showings from Paige Atwater and Joelys Rodriguez. Atwater scored 22 points, while Rodriguez scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Halter, who scored 4 points.

Springstead now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Weeki Wachee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Springstead won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lecanto at 7:30 p.m. on November 30th. Lecanto presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springstead in Florida (Lecanto is ranked 74th, while Springstead is ranked 258th). As for Weeki Wachee, they will head out on the road to face off against Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Nature Coast Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
