Basketball Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Crete Cardinals

York and Crete are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The York Dukes will take on the Crete Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. York has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

York is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Lakeview: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that York blew Lakeview out of the water with a 58-29 final score. The Dukes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 25 points or more this season.

Lainey Portwine continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up nine points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Chloe Koch, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 12 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Crete came into Tuesday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 51-44 victory over Adams Central on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Cardinals were the better team in the second half.

York's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Crete, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

York strolled past Crete when the teams last played two weeks ago by a score of 61-42. Does York have another victory up their sleeve, or will Crete turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
