Baseball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Elizabethtown on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-2. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Nelson County got a good showing from J Mcclain, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mcclain has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, T Gagel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. E Rogers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Nelson County's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Elizabethtown, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-9 record this season.

Nelson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Elizabethtown, they will square off against Breckinridge County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.5, the Fighting Tigers 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
