Softball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Wolfe County

Nine must be Wolfe County's lucky number: they beat Powell County with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Wolves beat the Pirates by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-2. Considering the Wolves have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Laney Mayabb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Isabel Oliver was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last eight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Holbrook, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Wolfe County and bumps their season record up to 14-17. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Powell County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-14.

Coming up, Wolfe County will venture away from home to face off against Garrard County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Powell County, they will welcome Lee County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.22 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
