Basketball Recap: Palmetto Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, Palmetto rose to the challenge on Thursday. They snuck past the South Dade Buccaneers with a 42-36 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won nine in a row.

It was another big night for Alessandra Falcon, who went 9 for 14 on her way to 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. She is becoming a predictor of Palmetto's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 5-2 (and 2-5 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Florencia Caceres, who posted two points and four steals.

Despite the loss, South Dade still got an impressive performance from Justice Sheppard, who put up 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Sheppard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Jurnee Walters was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

The victory got Palmetto back to even at 7-7. As for South Dade, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Palmetto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-35 loss against Ferguson on the 7th. South Dade does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
