Softball Game Preview: University Prep Jaguars vs. Big Bear Bears

For the second straight game, University Prep will face off against Big Bear. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (University Prep has three straight wins, Big Bear has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, University Prep beat Big Bear 7-3.

Jayleen Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Lopez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Paityn Zimmerman and Brie (Brieana) Villanueva did most of the damage at the plate: Zimmerman went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Villanueva went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Juliette Torres was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.

University Prep pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Big Bear, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10-1.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Big Bear struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
