Basketball Preview: Fayette County Tigers vs. Troup County Tigers
Fayette County is 7-0 against the Tigers since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Fayette County Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Troup County Tigers at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fayette County has five straight wins, the Tigers have four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Fayette County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They escaped with a win against Trinity Christian by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but Fayette County was the better team in the second half.
Christian McAllister was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jackson Rutley, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Troup County lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They had to suffer through a rough 77-50 loss at the hands of LaGrange. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Troup County in their matchups with the Grangers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Fayette County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Troup County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
Fayette County strolled past the Tigers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 72-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fayette County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
