Baseball Recap: Lake Stevens Comes Up Short

If Lake Stevens was feeling good fresh off their 9-3 takedown of Edmonds-Woodway last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lake Stevens lost 7-1 to the Kamiak Knights on Monday. The game marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Luke Morris was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lake Stevens saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aspen Alexander, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Alexander's first of the season.

Lake Stevens' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Kamiak, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lake Stevens is set to square off against their familiar foe Cascade at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Kamiak will challenge rival Arlington at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Kamiak 3.6, Arlington 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
