Northern Illinois recap September 4, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Jefferson, who defeated 304th ranked Jefferson, 45-0.

Christian Lope of Auburn ran for the longest rushing play in Northern Illinois this season against Boylan last week. Lope's team fell to the Titans as he sprinted for 95 yards on the play and finished with 116 in all.

Alec Smith and Alex Martin gave Hononegah a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Smith threw for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Martin ran for 138 yards. Teammate Alec Dodd added to the ground attack by rushing for 41 yards.

Smith and Martin gave the Indians a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.

Malik Light foot was the best wideout in the league this week as Harlem bested Freeport. Traidyn Thomas helped Harlem's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 32 yards.

Martin was the best running back in the league this week.

Smith put up the best numbers in passing as Hononegah beat East.

Tanner DiGiovanni provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Huskies defeated the Pretzels. He completed 9 passes for 139 yards and also ran for 108 yards.

Harlem's DiGiovanni and Light foot have formed a dream team this season, leading Northern Illinois in both passing and receiving yards. Martin from Tim Sughroue's team leads the league in rushing with 138 yards.

At the moment, the Indians are in first, while Boylan is in fourth.

Belvidere was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from ninth to fifth in the league. The Bucs vanquished Belvidere North 33-14 earlier in the week.
