Softball Recap: Maria Carrillo Comes Up Short

Maria Carrillo extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 10-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the American Canyon Wolves. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Pumas couldn't push the score so high this time.

Maria Carrillo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Weber, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

As for American Canyon, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.

On American Canyon's side, Kate Sosa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Sosa a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deja Montgomery, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Madison Del Castillo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maria Carrillo will challenge Analy at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday. The Pumas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for American Canyon, they will host Petaluma at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
