Softball Game Preview: Vicksburg Gators vs. Loyd Star Hornets

Vicksburg hasn't had much luck against Loyd Star recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vicksburg Gators will be playing at home against the Loyd Star Hornets at 6:30 p.m.

Vicksburg is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Yazoo County.

Lili Kistler was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Makynzie Dunmore was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Loyd Star, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They skirted past Wesson 2-1.

Layla Burt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

Loyd Star pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs over those games. As for Vicksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Vicksburg suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Loyd Star when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Vicksburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
