Softball Game Preview: Napa Grizzlies vs. Petaluma Trojans

Napa hasn't had much luck against Petaluma recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Grizzlies will take on the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Napa has given up an average of 11.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Napa is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They came up short against Casa Grande, falling 18-2.

Napa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Priscilla Morgado Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Meanwhile, Petaluma hadn't done well against Vintage recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Crushers 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since March 10th.

Lily Pardini spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Scarlett Fannin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Petaluma is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Napa, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Napa might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Petaluma in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Grizzlies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
