The Coconino Panthers will head out to square off against the Prescott Badgers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Coconino has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Coconino fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lee Williams on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Volunteers by a score of 8-7. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Volunteers since on Thursday.
Caleb Begay put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit over his last four contests. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Corbin Derr was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Ty Sevier was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Prescott won against Mohave last Saturday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Prescott didn't even let Agua Fria on the board, marking Prescott's second-straight 15-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Badgers, who have now won four games in a row.
Parker Reed looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Prescott let Nick Martin and Cooper Magnett run wild. Martin scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Magnett went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Martin has become a key player for Prescott: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ashton Whitwell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Prescott was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Prescott's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Coconino, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7-1.
Coconino couldn't quite finish off Prescott when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 18-16. Can Coconino avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
