Basketball Game Preview: Washington Hatchets vs. Southridge Raiders

Washington is 10-0 against Southridge since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Washington Hatchets will square off against the Southridge Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Washington will be looking to extend their current 19-game winning streak.

Last Thursday, Washington beat South Spencer 51-38. Given the Hatchets' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Rebels are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Washington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shay Hawk, who posted 17 points and three steals. Hawk has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Olivia Gilley was another key player, putting up ten points and seven boards.

Washington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Southridge lost to Tecumseh on the road by a 30-16 margin on Thursday. The matchup marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Washington pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Southridge, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Washington against Southridge when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 56-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Washington since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
