Softball Preview: Smithville Smithies vs. Norwayne Bobcats
Smithville hasn't had much luck against Norwayne recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Smithies are taking a road trip to face off against the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
On Monday, Smithville got the win against Firestone by a conclusive 13-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Smithies.
Norwayne came out on top against Cloverleaf on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 16-9 win. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
CJ Moore made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. Moore was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Norwayne got a massive performance out of Maddy Workman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Workman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Gwinn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Norwayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .368 or higher in four consecutive contests.
