MaxPreps Top 25 national high school softball rankings

Mission Viejo pitcher Taylor McQuillin threw a perfect game in an 8-0 victory over South Coast League foe Tesoro last week to lead the Diablos to their 20th win of the season and keep them unbeaten and atop MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Softball Rankings.

McQuillin struck out 13 of the 21 batters faced and Shianne Ybarra and Sierra Bjostad provided run support with home runs.

Amador Valley held steady at No. 2, as did No. 3 Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.).

Lebanon bolted from the unranked to No. 8 by virtue of its 26-0 season as it enters postseason play today. Olathe East and The Woodlands also moved into the top 10. East ran its record to 16-0 while The Woodlands took two of three from previously ranked Atascocita (Texas).



Also new to the Top 25 this week are West Florida, Daniel Boone and Baylor.

1. (No. 1 last week) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 21-0
With a 5-3 win over Dana Hills, 9-3 victory over San Clemente and McQuillin's perfect game over Tesoro, the Diablos remained unbeaten. On Thursday, they visit 22-4 Pacifica (Garden Grove).

2. (2) Amador Valley (Pleasanton, Calif.), 22-0
AV won twice with an 8-3 triumph over Granada and a 4-0 victory over Monte Vista, as Johanna Grauer homered and thew a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Next up is California (San Ramon).

3. (3) Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.), 27-0
With an 11-1 win over North Iredell, Central ran its win streak to 60. Next up is the first round of the state playoffs against Mount Tabor (Winston-Salem).

4. (5) Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu, Texas), 30-0
The Eagles have rolled through the first three weeks of the Texas postseason by outscoring their opponents 41-1. They play Santa Fe on Saturday in the 4A regional semifinals.

5. (6) Cy-Fair (Cypress, Texas), 30-1
With 1-0 and 6-5 wins over Seven Lakes, the Bobcats advanced to the 5A regional semifinals on Friday against 33-5 Deer Park.



6. (18) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), 25-1
Revenge is sweet. Down two runs on the road against one of the nation's top pitchers (Brynne Fitzpatrick), the Monarchs rallied to beat Valley Christian 8-5 on Tuesday to win the West Catholic Athletic League regular-season championship. Jazmyn Jackson and Anissa Bonilla launched home runs.

7. (7) Mauldin (S.C.), 30-0
The Mavericks beat Northwestern, 9-4, as Deanna Sullivan hit a grand slam and Emma Swearingen hit a two-run homer. They faced Byrnes on Tuesday.

8. (NR) Lebanon (Ohio), 26-0
Lebanon has given up only 18 runs while scoring 227 this season. In its last 10 games, the margin is 98-4. Tara Trainer has posted a 0.09 ERA. The postseason begins Wednesday.

9. (15) Olathe East (Kan.), 16-0
The Hawks won four games last week and have won 38 of their last 39 games. They hosted Shawnee Mission Northwest on Tuesday.

10. (13) The Woodlands (Texas), 34-3
The Highlanders knocked No. 13 Atascocita from the Top 25 by beating Atascocita twice, 7-4 and 12-5. The Highlanders advanced to the regional semifinals for the fourth year in a row.

11. (16) Sherwood (Sandy Spring, Md.), 15-0
The Warriors routed Quince Orchard (Gaithersburg) to keep their 56-game winning streak alive. Blair was the last team to beat them, on May 20, 2011.

12. (14) Immaculate Heart Academy (Washington Township, N.J.), 22-0
IHA has allowed just five runs in its last 16 games, 12 of which have been shutouts (the latest a no-hitter and 13 strikeouts from senior Steph Thomas). Seven starters are hitting over .400. They played Fair Lawn on Tuesday.



13. (16) Vacaville (Calif.), 24-0-1
The Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs began Tuesday for the Bulldogs.

14. (18) North Davidson (Lexington, N.C.), 26-0
The Black Knights meet Rocky River (Mint Hill) on Wednesday in the first round of the state 4A playoffs.

15. (19) Bay City Western (Auburn, Mich.), 18-0
Meredith Rouse had six hits, including a home run, helping Western sweep Mt. Pleasant and clinch the SVL North for the fourth-straight year. Bay City started the season ranked 79th.

16. (22) Crown Point (Ind.), 19-0
After winning 11 of its first 12 games by shutout, the Bulldogs beat Chesterton and LaPorte by 4-3 margins. Sophomore Miranda Elish is unbeaten and averaging nearly two strikeouts per inning. The Bulldogs host Merrillville on Wednesday.

17. (20) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 30-2
Meghan King scattered five hits and Rachel Collins drove in the lone run as the Raiders won Florida's 7A state title for the second-straight year. Collins also drove in the winning run in last year's state title win for the Raiders. Both of the Raiders' 2014 losses were by 1-0 scores.

18. (23) Eastern Tech (Baltimore), 21-0
The Mavericks routed four opponents by a combined 59-0 score last week and host Kenwood (Baltimore) on Wednesday.



19. (NR) Daniel Boone (Birdsboro, Pa.), 21-0
Daniel Boone beat Kutztown, 3-2, on Monday and will meet 19-2 Brandywine Heights on Wednesday.

20. (9) Sparkman (Harvest, Ala.), 59-4-1
Sparkman enters the second round of the state playoffs as the No. 1 seed.

21. (23) Curtis (River Ridge, La.), 30-2
Won state 3A title.

22. (10) La Grange (Texas), 36-2
The Cougars saw their win streak end at 35 with a 2-0 loss to Columbus, but bounced back to win the best-of-three series with an 18-0 rout. They move on to the regional final on Saturday.

23. (25) South Salem (Ore.), 21-1
The Saxons played for revenge on Tuesday versus West Salem, the only team to put a blemish on their season.

24. (NR) West Florida (Pensacola, Fla.), 28-1
The Jaguars won their final 14 games, including winning the state 4A title with a 6-5 win over P.K. Yonge (Gainesville). On the season, West Florida allowed just 18 runs while scoring 213. The most runs they allowed was in the state title game. Senior Korina Rosario finished the season 28-1 with a 0.19 ERA and 323 strikeouts in 183 innings. She also batted .546 with 41 RBIs.

25. (NR) Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.), 32-3
Baylor has won 18 straight. The Red Raiders host Ensworth in a best-of-three playoff series on Friday.
