Softball Recap: Lower Lake Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Lower Lake had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Middletown on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 7-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Mustangs on April 4th, they had to take a 9-1 loss.

Not much got past Mariah Bal, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep Middletown off the board. Bal has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jamiya Lee-Ayers was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Heidi Ortega was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Lower Lake is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Coming up, Lower Lake will head out on the road to face off against St. Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Middletown, they will host Fort Bragg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Timberwolves have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
