Softball Recap: Shekinah Christian Comes Up Short

Shekinah Christian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-12 in the process. They came up short against the Delaware Christian Eagles, falling 18-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.

Mia Pierce was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Leah Newman was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

As for Delaware Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Delaware Christian's side, Ava Hovda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Katie Hobbs, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cosette Stump, who went 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shekinah Christian will take on Liberty Christian Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Delaware Christian, they will take on Berne Union in a tournament on Monday.
