Flag Football Game Preview: Sierra Timberwolves vs. East Union Lancers

The Sierra Timberwolves will challenge the East Union Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Sierra 10.3, East Union 9.9) so any points scored will be well earned.

Sierra fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Manteca on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They and the Buffaloes were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 13-12 defeat. The Timberwolves' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Although Sierra took the loss, they still got scores from Kileyann O'Neill and Tessa Zalunardo.

Sierra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Maitland Kohoutek led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by herself. O'Neill is also on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as she's now defended at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, East Union had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 14-0 shutout. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Mustangs are ranked 451st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

East Union's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Sierra beat East Union 26-19 in their previous matchup back in September. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
