Baseball Game Preview: Florida Christian Patriots vs. Somerset Academy Panthers

Florida Christian has gone a perfect 4-0 against Somerset Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Florida Christian Patriots will be playing at home against the Somerset Academy Panthers at 7:15 p.m. Florida Christian will be strutting in after a win while Somerset Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Florida Christian took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Archbishop Carroll with a sharp 10-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Steven Gonzalez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one).

Meanwhile, Somerset Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday and fell 4-3. The Panthers have struggled against the Chiefs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Kareem Amer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.

At the plate, Jon Mora made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season.

Somerset Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.

Everything went Florida Christian's way against Somerset Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Florida Christian made off with a 9-0 victory.
