Baseball Recap: Mt. Shasta's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After only one run in their last game, Mt. Shasta made sure to put some runs up on the board against Weed on Friday. The Bears blew past the Cougars 12-4. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Bears this season.

Hayden Porteous made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Mt. Shasta: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Mt. Shasta got a massive performance out of BEN KENNEDY, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that KENNEDY got this season. Keikea Ferguson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mt. Shasta moved to 5-6 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Weed, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Mt. Shasta will square off against Maxwell at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Weed, they will challenge Etna at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
