Softball Recap: Chardon Drops Season-High Score on Mayfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chardon). Everything went their way against the Mayfield Wildcats on Monday as they made off with a 19-4 victory. The Hilltoppers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024 (when they won 23-1).

The team relied heavily on Sierra Taylor, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Anderson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Chardon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chardon pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Coming up, Chardon is taking a road trip to take on Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hilltoppers surely won't give up without a fight. Mayfield will be paying especially close attention to Chardon's match: after Chardon faces off against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, they'll take on Mayfield again at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
