League recap: Pieper breaks off league-leading run for St. Patrick's

C2 District 9 recap October 1, 2013

St. Patrick's's Collin Pieper rumbled for the longest rushing play in C2 District 9 this season in his game against Wood River last week. Pieper scampered for 70 yards on the play and finished with 140 on the day as his team beat the Eagles.

St. Patrick's extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Wood River, 48-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the Kevin Dodson's team.

Zack Moore was a key player and the best on defense this week as Cambridge defeated Perkins County. The 6-foot-1 junior.

Pieper was a passing and rushing force as the Irish bested Ben Fehringer's team. Pieper's key target this week was Drew McClellen, who caught 2 passes for 46 yards.

Jake Witte was the best receiver in the league this week as the Trojans defeated the Plainsmen. Witte tallied 4 receptions for 108 yards. Tj Gregory helped Cambridge's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 14 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Taylor Kubik of Cambridge is the league leader in passing yards this season with 601. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is McClellen. The St. Patrick's star has 9 catches for 212 yards.

Hershey made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,457 from 5,353. The improvement was the result of a 21-14 victory over Bridgeport last week.
