Meridian took a ten-run  defeat the last time they faced off against St. Joseph-Ogden, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks won by a  run and slipped past the Spartans  3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  victory the Hawks have posted  since May 4, 2024.
 Katelyn Clapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on nine hits.
 On the hitting side, Meridian's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was  Madi Kapchinske, who  went a perfect 3-for-3 with one  RBI. That's the most  hits  Kapchinske has posted since back in April. Another  was  Shelby Renfro, who  went 2-for-4 with one  stolen base, one  run,  and one  RBI.
The  victory made it two in a row for Meridian and  bumps their season record up to 20-5. The  wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph-Ogden,  they are  on  a  four-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 19-11.
 Looking ahead, Meridian will square off against Marshall at 10:45  a.m.  on Saturday. The Lions will roll in looking for their  fourth straight  victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, they will look to defend their home field  on Saturday against Pinckneyville  at 2:15  p.m.
