Baseball Game Preview: Oswego East Wolves vs. Plainfield Central Wildcats

Oswego East is 2-8 against Plainfield Central since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wolves will take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Oswego East will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

While Oswego East didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Joliet Central on Monday. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Oswego East got a great performance from Ernest Williams as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Williams also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wolves are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Mason Palermo and Carter Rapp did most of the damage at the plate: Palermo went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Rapp went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Rapp also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacsen Tucker, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Plainfield Central not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd. They put the hurt on Bolingbrook with a sharp 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Oswego East pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield Central, their record is now 9-3.

Oswego East came up short against Plainfield Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 11-6. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
