Schlagle is 0-10 against Atchison since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Stallions are taking a road trip to take on the Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. Schlagle has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Schlagle couldn't beat Sumner Academy on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Stallions came up short against the Sabres, falling 23-8.
Mario Arita made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Angel Zalazar also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Meanwhile, Atchison can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Washington. Considering the Phoenix have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Parker Huntington made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brody Barnes was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Atchison: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kolten Bonnel, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Atchison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only posted a batting average of .250.
Schlagle's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Atchison, their record now sits at 13-7.
Schlagle might still be hurting after the 20-0 defeat they got from Atchison in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Stallions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
