Basketball Recap: Cedar Vale/Dexter Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Cedar Vale/Dexter hadn't done well against Oxford recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-35 victory over the Oxford Wildcats. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Wildcats are ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cedar Vale/Dexter found their leader in sophomore Zoe Davidson, who went 10 for 21 on her way to 26 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Edee Boatman, who posted seven points and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, don't look at Yasmin Gardea. Despite the final result, she went 9 of 19 en route to 20 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That was a full 57.1% of Oxford's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Makhila Maupin, who earned eight points and nine boards.
