Football Game Preview: Wilson Tigers vs. Hilton Head Island Seahawks

The Wilson Tigers will take on the Hilton Head Island Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 961 yards in their previous games.

Wilson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 36-28 win over May River. The Tigers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wilson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayden Bethea, who rushed for 89 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also picked up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another rusher making a difference was Zyeir Lyde, who rushed for 120 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 226 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They blew past the Thoroughbreds 52-24. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won seven matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.

Hilton Head Island's win came from a few key players Wilson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Derrick Raniszewski, who threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in August. Thaddeus Czarnecki helped Raniszewski out on the ground, rushing for 84 yards and three scores on only nine carries.

Wilson's record now sits at 7-4. As for Hilton Head Island, their record is now 10-1.

Wilson took a serious blow against Hilton Head Island in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, falling 43-0. Thankfully for the Tigers, Troy Timko (who rushed for 150 yards and four TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
