Football Preview: Lakeside Vikings vs. Shiloh Generals
After two games on the road, Lakeside is heading back home. They will host the Shiloh Generals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lakeside focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up four on Friday.
Lakeside's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Decatur on Friday. They were dealt a 31-0 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 213th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 69th).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shiloh). They came out on top against Arabia Mountain by a score of 40-33 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Generals.
Marlin Mathis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 208 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 111.3 rushing yards per game. Ricky Simmons was another key player, throwing for 137 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Shiloh was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Shiloh didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zion Lee and Travious (Travis) Hoke Jr.
Lakeside's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Shiloh, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
