Newark Memorial is a perfect 10-0 against Kennedy since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will face off against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Newark Memorial and Washington, and Newark Memorial kept the tradition alive. The Cougars put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 28-7 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Mahlyah Sao was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyvia Costa, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs and four RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Newark Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.
Meanwhile, Kennedy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with an 18-6 victory.
Kennedy let Celeste Esquivel and Lucienne Sotelo run wild. Esquivel got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Sotelo went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Eva Caldera also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Newark Memorial now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Kennedy, their record is now 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newark Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Newark Memorial's way against Kennedy when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Newark Memorial made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
