Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Monticello

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Monticello ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Louisa County Lions 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since May 9, 2024.

Madison Steppe spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Willow Barr was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

The victory (which was Monticello's third in a row) raised their record to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Louisa County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-4 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello will welcome Charlottesville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs are facing the Black Knights at the right time seeing as the Black Knights are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Louisa County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Orange County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lions 3.2, the Fighting Hornets 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
