Softball Recap: Shelby County's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

The matchup between Shelby County and Thorsby on Thursday hardly resembled the 0-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Wildcats came out on top against the Rebels by a score of 16-11. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on three straight.

Aaliyah Chaisson (2026) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Chaisson (2026) was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kaydence Connell (2026) was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Minton (2030), who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Shelby County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Shelby County pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Thorsby, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3-1.

Coming up, Shelby County will venture away from home to challenge Randolph County at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Thorsby, they will be playing at home against Childersburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
