Basketball Recap: Norfolk Collegiate Triumphs

Norfolk Collegiate lost to Veritas Collegiate Academy back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks snuck past the Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans with a 56-52 victory. The win almost wasn't to be: the Mighty Oaks were down 38-20 in the second quarter.

It was another big night for Justin Burrough, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 19 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Mills, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 17 points.

Veritas Collegiate Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Falcon Green, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmin Agic, who posted two points along with eight steals and eight blocks.

Norfolk Collegiate's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 19-8.

Norfolk Collegiate and Veritas Collegiate Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Norfolk Collegiate will take on Oaktree Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday up 292 places (118 vs. 410). Similarly, Veritas Collegiate Academy (ranked 101st) will meet Cristo Rey (ranked 325th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
