Baseball Recap: Bassick Comes Up Short

Bassick had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it ten. They lost 24-0 to the Wolcott RVT Wildcats. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 19-0 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Wolcott RVT, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Wolcott RVT's part, Daniel Mazzetti was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mazzetti has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Devon Schmitt looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

Back at the plate, Wolcott RVT got a massive performance out of Andrew Soria, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Soria a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Leonard, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Bassick will square off against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wolcott RVT, they will challenge Bullard-Havens at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
