Softball Game Preview: Central Panthers vs. Newberg Tigers

The Central Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Newberg Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Newberg took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Central, who comes in off a win.

Central came out on top against Sprague on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run seventh inning. The Panthers put the hurt on the Olympians with a sharp 15-2 win. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tawney Snair made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, Central got a massive performance out of Sophia Beasly, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was Beasly's first of the season. Kayden Pairan was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Newberg came up short against Hillsboro on Monday, falling 14-4.

Newberg's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Central, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Everything went Central's way against Newberg in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Central made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
