Basketball Recap: Conner Boyle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Weeki Wachee over Springstead

Weeki Wachee fought the good fight in their overtime match against Springstead on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Springstead Eagles 72-66. The Hornets just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Weeki Wachee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Conner Boyle, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Boyle a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Parent, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points and six steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springstead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Sayre, who posted 16 points and seven rebounds. Alejandro Arenas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Weeki Wachee's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Springstead, they pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee will challenge Nature Coast Tech at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nature Coast Tech's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Springstead, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Central at 7:30 p.m. Springstead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
