Baseball Recap: Martin County Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Martin County and Vero Beach had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Martin County came up short against Vero Beach on Wednesday, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Martin County got a good showing from Michael Sanchez, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Martin County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stone Preston, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Martin County's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Vero Beach, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 16-0.

Martin County and Vero Beach should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Martin County (ranked 124th) will meet Sebastian River (ranked 442nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Vero Beach will take on Viera at 6:00 p.m. on Friday up 83 places (11 vs. 94). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Vero Beach 1.2, Viera 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
