Basketball Recap: Mt. Zion Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Mt. Zion won the last time they faced Atlanta Classical Academy and things went their way on Friday too. The Mt. Zion Eagles secured a 63-59 W over the Atlanta Classical Academy Cavaliers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Mt. Zion's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Payton Waters led the charge by going 6 for 10 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Xavier Buckner, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points.

Mt. Zion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Atlanta Classical Academy lost, don't look at Miller McGowan. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 21 en route to 33 points and four steals. That was a full 55.9% of Atlanta Classical Academy's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Wright, who earned 12 points and eight boards.
