Soccer Game Preview: Escondido vs. Fallbrook

The Escondido Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Fallbrook Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Escondido is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.4 goals per game this season.

Fallbrook will be up against a hot Escondido team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Escondido narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mt. Carmel 2-1. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Sundevils are ranked 461st), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Anthony Ramirez and Enrique Rodriguez scored both of Escondido's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 18 goals.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Fallbrook was not quite San Marcos' equal in the second half on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fallbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-6. As for Escondido, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2-2 record this season.

Escondido took their victory against Fallbrook in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Escondido since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
