Baseball Recap: Orono Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Delano, Orono was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the New Prague Trojans a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Blake Martin looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Orono is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Rory Kvern was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Gavin McGuirk was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

With the victory, Orono broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-5. As for New Prague, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

Coming up, Orono will head out to take on St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Prague, they will host Chanhassen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
